Health Insurer Hacked

“Anthem”, American Health insurer hacked – said hackers broke into a database containing personal information on about 80 million of its customers and employees last week; it has only just been publicised (two days ago) – Anthem had 37.5 million medical members as of the end of December 2014.

Cyber security firm FireEye said it had been hired to help Anthem investigate the attack and are still trying to determine the extent of the breach –  it is likely that tens of millions of records were stolen. The information accessed during the “very sophisticated attack” included names, birthdays, social security details, postal and email addresses along with employment information

Remember – it’s not always the big boys with their massive budgets that are targeted – small health insurers and businesses are all vulnerable and good targets for information theft
